What is Miami Academy?
The Academy is a voluntary program that provides alternative learning environments to At-Risk students. We assist students in credit recovery, individual schedules, and offer programs for students to work toward a standard high school diploma.
• Our graduates receive Miami High School diplomas and participate in MHS graduation exercise
• Our students may participate in activities, athletics, and classes at MHS
• Our students have opportunities to gain credits in Work Study programs
• Our students have opportunities to participate in Vocational/Technical programs
• Our students receive counseling services and Life Skills classes
• We provide smaller classroom sizes
• We seek to provide individual instruction, timely interventions, and immediate feedback
• We use self-paced, computer-assisted learning (Edgenuity), textbooks, online assignments, individual and small group learning activities among our teaching strategies
• We provide Differentiated Instruction practices
• We seek to engage students and create active, life-long learners
• We believe that all students can learn
• We believe in different learning styles and multiple intelligences
